Month 7: Jan 11 - Feb 11

Jan 11 - Grant weighs 14 lbs 12 oz and is 25" tall.  Only 11 oz more than last month.
Jan 12 - For the first time, Grant has picked up a ball and turned it around in his hand to look at it from all angles.  His manual dexterity is growing by leaps and bounds every day!
Jan 13 - Our first day trying out the 2-3-4 nap schedule for 2 naps a day.  Grant made it only until 1.5 hours before showing sleepy signs for his first nap, but then he slept for 1.5 hours and was still happy by the time his second nap was due 3 hours later.
Jan 19 - Grant is purposefully rolling onto his tummy now and can flip his arm out  from under him.  Once on his tummy he sometimes wiggles his arms and legs as if he's trying to swim.
Jan 21 - We dropped Grant's crib mattress so that he would not roll himself out of bed.  Grant also figures out how to drink out of his sippy cup, but only when he is lying down.
Jan 22 - We added the bumpers to the crib so that he would not bonk his head during his 5:30 am wiggle around the bed.
Jan 23 - 2010 baby reunion with the Community Midwives of Halton.  The power goes out after bedtime and Grant freaks out because his white noise machine has gone silent and his night light is off.
Jan 24 - Grant figures out how to drink out of his sippy while sitting up but still needs help to tip the cup.  He is not particularly hungry all day and has rosy cheeks, but still no teeth.
Jan 25 - We had gnocci for dinner and Grant was able to pick up the little pieces and even attempt to open up his hand to eat the pasta he is holding.  He played a game where he offered his food to mommy and daddy, thinking it was great fun!  Grant has a rough night for the second night in a row.  He wakes a few times very upset.  In the early morning he cries because he has rolled onto his tummy in his sleepsack and is stuck.
Jan 26 - Grant and mommy go to see his second movie, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Pt. 1.  Unlike at the last movie, he is awake for most of the movie.  He watched the previews and the beginning of the movie, then fell asleep for 30 mins and was awake for the rest of the movie, mostly playing with his toys and watching the images on the big screen.
Jan 27 - Two successful naps without the swaddle, the first for an hour and the second for two hours!  Grant is now able to spin himself in a circle on his tummy by creeping with his hands.
Jan 28 - Two more successful naps without the swaddle!  We are on a roll. :)
Jan 29 - Started signing a few words with Grant.  Hopefully in a few months he will catch on and start signing back to us.
Jan 30 - We noticed a tiny white spot on Grant's bottom gums.  Could it be a tooth, finally?  Today was Grant's first meal in a restaurant... he had teriyaki beef and avocado nigiri.
Jan 31 - Grant's second trip to the swimming pool, this time for a playdate with his little friends.  He loved it!
Feb 3 - Grant sleeps from 10pm to 7am without waking for the first time, and does this again 2 days later.  Could this be the end of his 2:30am dreamfeed?
Feb 7 - Grant has his first diaper rash.
Feb 8 - While sitting on the carpet, Grant tips over and faceplants into the coffee table.  He has his first bad bruise.  :(
Feb 10 - At our 8-month well-baby check up, Dr. Rezvani says that Grant should be in commercials.  He now weighs 15 lbs, 7oz and is strong and healthy.

Grant is experimenting with the noises he can make.  Sometimes he wheezes, squeals or coughs.  He likes surprises and laughs if you make the same sound over and over, then change it suddenly.  He reaches for things and often catches us off guard with what he can grab while seated in his Bumbo, including Roz's dish of treats.  Since sleep training, he is still waking up at 5:30 in the morning to chat with himself or play semi-quietly.  Sometimes he goes back to sleep again but sometimes he stays awake until we give in and get him out of bed at 7 am.  He is constantly rolling around now which makes diaper changes infinitely more difficult.  He is starting to be amenable to  napping on his side or tummy, though sometimes he doesn't like it and gets frustrated.  Grant is finding so many things funny, like sounds that Roz makes, shaking out the laundry, and he laughs very hard.  The sound of his laugh is wonderful!  While on his tummy he can spin in a circle and he is trying to reach for things but has not quite figured out how to move forward or backward.
